WE DEFINED THE STANDARD

Founded in 1972, URW is considered a pioneer in the field of digital type and software tool development. URW created the world's first CAD/CAM system for the design and production of digital typography. In addition to production related tools URW owns one of the largest digital typeface libraries in the world. A partial list of companies that have licensed URW's software include: Microsoft, Daimler Chrysler, Adobe, Monotype Imaging, Deneba, Corel, Macromedia, Micrografx and Gerber Scientific.

In 1996 URW America was awarded a contract with the Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation (FHWA) to Revise and Update the Standard Highway Signs Manual. This massive project required over 3,000 individual, full size sign layouts to be created. URW was also given the responsibility to revise the Standard Alphabets (1966 & 1977).

URW's Series 2000 fonts and pre-made sign layouts define the industry standard. They are available for highway departments and sign makers needing to fabricate FHWA specification compliant traffic control signs.
